Process: How to Order A Portrait

Ordering a portrait is easier than you think! This process applies to both portraits of pets and people.

1.

Get in touch

Send me an email and we’ll have a conversation about your portrait! I’ll ask a whole lot of questions about the subject’s personality (and if it’s a pet, I’ll ask about their breed, coat type/colour, etc).

2.

Photo mockup

Using your photos, I’ll create a “mockup” or example of what your final painting will look like in terms of composition, layout, pose and background colour.

3.

Updates & approvals

I send you updates via email, and you send me the go-ahead to keep refining the painting until it’s finished to your satisfaction!

4.

Digital files

Once the painting is finished, I email you high-resolution files that are 100% print-ready! These include a 300dpi JPG, PNG and PDF (the PDF includes a 0.25” bleed).

5. PRINT + FRAME YOUR PAINTING!

An optional Step 5 would be for you to print your new artwork! Although I don’t provide printing as a service to clients, I do provide you with all the tools necessary to get it printed quickly and conveniently yourself.

Don’t worry, I’ll help you one-on-one! In the meantime, I’m working on some articles and resources that contain summaries of this information, so I’ll post the links here once they’re ready.

Here are some tips to keep in mind for a smooth process!

  • Things cannot be changed beyond step 2 in the mockup point.

    • Additional or excessive revisions will be billed at an hourly rate and included in your invoice.

  • Payment is kindly requested in 2 instalments:

    • 1 out of 2: Half the amount transferred before work begins on the mockup

    • 2 out of 2: The remaining half of payment is transferred after approving the final design. Payment is required first before handing over high-res print files.

  • Send high quality, well lit and sharp photos of your subject. My work will only be as good as the reference material I have to work from, so please send as high quality images as you can so that I can fully comprehend the subject.

  • Turnaround times start at 5 business days for a portrait with a single figure, however to adhere to these timeframes I require your cooperation in sending timely approvals via email. If there is a delay in response from you, I will also delay working on the project until I have your approval to continue.

That’s it! Ready to chat?
